Welcome to The Alpena Flour Mill
Let's make our community a better place!
Let's make our community a better place!
Taking care of our neighbors makes for a stronger community. Looking out for one another ensures a safer and happier neighborhood. When we all do a little, we can do so much!
In 1916 the Monarch Milling Company, a grist and flour mill, began operations in this building, which was constructed in 1914. By 1920 it was known as the Alpena Flour Mills, producing “Leader” and “Velvo” brand flour. The mill closed in 1956, but during its forty years of operation, it played an integral part in the daily life of the community. Much of the mill’s original equipment remains in place. In 1996 through the efforts of the Nadeau family The Alpena Flour Mill was added to the State of Michigan Registry of Historic Sites.
For over 40 years The Alpena Flour Mill was not only a flour mill but a meeting place. A place where travelers would catch up on world news, post an ad on a bulletin board and rest while their flour was being processed. The Mill was purchased in 2019 with the intent of developing it into a community oriented Coffee House, a place for people to sit, and have a conversation over a good cup of coffee. Our brand "Olde Mill Coffee" is single origin, ethically sourced and roasted right here in Alpena, Michigan on our 100+ year old Royal #5 Coffee Roaster.
